Chinese New Year - a second chance at New Year Resolutions!

Lunar New Year's Eve was Feb 18th. About 7:30AM the fireworks started at random times. By 8:30 is was going pretty strong. There isn't one place to go and see them - rather, you look out your window and see them going off in random places all around you! It was great!  March 5th is Lantern Festival and the end of Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). All during this time firework shows each night depending on who wanted to set them off. One of the parks has a 'lantern lighting' each night thru March 5th. It was kind of like Zoo Lights or lights at Temple Square. Many decorations, a ton of lights and people. We had a great time!  Another park, Da-ming Lake, had a little festival w/ activities

From our window on Lunar New Year's Eve

This one is a little blurry because the picture on the side of the building is moving. Pretty tall building with quite a story/show going on

 More fireworks....

The next few pics are taken at Baotu Spring park where the lanterns were lit each night. We wished we knew the stories behind the displays - it was fun to make up our own!

These are some of the sights from Da-ming Lake.

cabbage and onions on tofu...haven't seen this one before

dart games....just like home

This is a candy - like a honey mixed with sugar or something like that. The artist in the second picture drizzles the heated candy onto a marble slab. He created dragons, butterflies, flowers, etc. Very carefully lifts them, attaches a stick, wrap them, and there you go. Very interesting to watch and see!

Love those cute little faces in their cute little dough boy clothes :)
Cotton candy - this is the biggest surprise to me. For a people who don't have a lot of sugar in their diet, I was totally caught off guard with Cotton Candy - pure sugar on a stick!
